No more plastic bags!
Starting in 2014, we made the commitment to phase out plastic in our packaging of bagged greens and all single-use shopping bags at our farmers' markets. We now exclusively use Biobags, which are the most environmentally-friendly alternative to plastic. They are made from non-GMO corn and are 100% biodegradable and compostable. This is key-- many bags labeled "biodegradable" are still made from plastic. These corn-based bags will compost in your backyard compost heap. They are expensive (nearly 4 times the price of conventional plastic bags) so we encourage our customers and members to re-use them to store their produce in until finally composting them.
CLEAN DIESEL DELIVERY TRUCKS
Our newly purchased delivery trucks have clean-burning diesel engines, compared with the traditional polluting diesel engines.
FOOD DONATIONS & COMPOSTING
We work closely with local organizations like Island Harvest to donate our excess produce to those in need in our community. Any produce that does not meet our quality standards for donation is composted in our on-farm composting program. Nothing goes to waste!
